The Way of the Middle Path© should be read a little each day, as you ponder the meanings of life’s journey. A Koan is a Zen teaching riddle in the form of questions or statements assigned to students by their master. Classically, koans are attractive paradoxes to be meditated on. Their purpose is to help one achieve enlightenment. A well-known example is “What is the sound of one hand clapping?” The clue that was given to me by my master was not to think of the person asking the question or of the question but to think of the person answering the question.

The Buddha Shakyamuni first found enlightenment underneath a Bodhi tree, which is why Bodhi seeds are one of the most important materials used to make mala beads. There are 108 beads on this Bodhi seed mala.  The bead size is 10mm to 11mm and the mala is approximately 20 inches long.

A Waiest® Spirit Warrior Monk always wears their mala beads as a reminder of the Waiest® Spirit Warrior Doctrines and as a symbol of universal life’s journey. They are to a Waiest® Spirit Warrior Monk as a robe would be to a Tibetan monk. Mala beads can be worn looped over the left wrist or as a necklace when not in use.
